Due to Sri Lanka’s wide spectrum of ethnic groups and religions, festivals are held regularly.
Each April, the Sinhala and Tamil people celebrate the Sinhala and Tamil
New Year Festival. The Muslim community celebrates Ramadan annually.
The Esala Perahera is
a grand Buddhist festival. The Perahera or procession features grand
and elegant dances and richly decorated elephants. There are
fire-dances, whip-dances, Kandyan dances and various other cultural
dances. The elephants are usually adorned with lavish garments.
Fairs are held periodically in Colombo. The Bandaranaike Memorial
International Conference Hall (BMICH) is the popular venue and host for
this kind of events. The varied trade fairs that are held, attract many
existing and potential investors.
